Euphoria This Week Was a Scene From My Life.

Although I am coming up on almost ten years of sobriety, it doesn’t mean I can’t remember what my life used to be like or where I know I can go again.

A lot of people were “shocked” by Rue’s behavior this week on Euphoria, but in all reality that is addiction at its core. I can remember vividly fights with my mother and brothers because I just wanted to be left alone to get high and they wouldn’t let it happen.

They were so fearful that I would overdose again at that point that they did whatever they could to keep me safe, not knowing they were fighting something that had such a hold on me I had to be ready to accept help.

You feel for Rue’s mother and sister this week. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, and while the audience knows that Rue owes a drug dealer money for those drugs and wants to pimp her out if she doesn’t pay her back all the money, they are seeing the grief Rue is still processing and her addiction rearing heads at the same damn time.

It’s an ugly picture and sure it can make you really dislike this part of Rue, because that’s all it is. This is the part of Rue that only care about one thing and one thing alone: her next fix.

That is how addiction works. It takes a hold of you and doesn’t let go until something dramatic happens whether its overdose or arrest or something else you get this brief moment of clarity to be able to ask for help and take action.

Getting help is easy, it really is the staying sober part that can be hard, especially in the beginning. From detox programs to inpatient treatment centers and intensive outpatient programs, to online nationwide addiction resources, there are so many options out there to help you or a loved one who is struggling.

Get help, even if it seems impossible, one day at a time things do get better.
